Several high-performance cruisers sail on Lake Okabena and offer cruises during the warmer months. In winter there is ice skating and ice hockey in summer, as well as organized baseball in summer.

Worthington Ice Co. harvests ice blocks from the frozen lake, stores them in facilities near lakes and uses the fact that they are loaded onto the rail for use in refrigerated transports of food. During the ice harvest, which peaked in the 1940s and finally declined in 1956, more than 45,000 tons of ice were extracted from Lake Okabena each year.
